Webinar: The science and art of building volunteer partnerships

Volunteers power recreation in B.C. But it only works with the assistance of staff from private land owners, parks and various levels of government. Improving the function of these relationships is in everyone’s best interest. How we can do that better is the focus of Outdoor Recreation Council of BC’s April webinar.

A panel discussion will focus on applying new science to create more productive partnerships between volunteers and land managers. Danish recreation researcher Evald Bundgaard Iversen will present the results of his study into the motivations of volunteer trail builders and their interactions with land managers. Kelsey Johansen, from The Trails Research Hub, will put the research into a Canadian context and provide takeaways for land managers and volunteer groups. Kevin Eskelin, Regional Recreation Manager, Southern Interior East region for Recreation Sites and Trails BC (RSTBC) will share about the extent that RSTBC works with volunteer groups, how it manages its partnerships and the importance and role of those partnerships to RSTBC.
